Glovo

At first glance into the space of the future Glovo office in Zagreb, it was clear that it comes with a good dose of advantages and challenges. Open space plan with a series of denivelations was a clear obstacle to the realization of the true Activity-based working (ABW) concept we were striving for. Fortunately, in the Glovo family, we found creative partners who were of immeasurable support in the realization of our ideas and ambitions.

Read on and discover how an office can become a destination for gathering and retaining young talent, who have replaced the conventional way of working in fixed jobs with a modern way of working from different collaborative zones.

If you visit the Glovo offices, you will see that employees use the offices in their entirety. In the abundance of enclaves for collaboration and meetings, there is rarely an empty space, and a person working on a laptop while walking through an office is a common occurrence. All in all, it is a beautiful sight to see a full and lively office space at a time when working from home is so common.

What are the characteristics of this office, and how do you achieve multifunctionality?

The space in front of us is located on the 3rd floor of the Green Gold Center, and it is oriented to the north and south side. There are work spaces against the walls of the façade, two on each side, and in the middle there is an irregular space that receives daylight only indirectly and yet combines a number of functions. So we decided that this temperamental space, in addition to communication, would get one additional life and an agile function.

The first and most vivid part of the central zone is certainly the entrance area. At the very beginning, the entrance turns to the side and hides the office space. This space houses locators for employees, a counter for delivery and collection of shipments, and next to the side wall there is a place for charging electric scooters. The spaciousness and flexibility of this entrance space ensure that the shipment or the bag is always placed there without disturbing the functioning of the rest of the office.

What kind of space does Glovo's office have to offer?

There are spaces for internal meetings, spaces for meetings with clients and a space for education that employees often use.

After a narrow passage with Glovo’s visual identity, you come to a small internal traffic square in the heart of the office. This is where the pulse of the office can be felt and the success of the implemented ABW concept is confirmed.

Below the central space is a lounge zone divided into 2 parts, and next to it is a kitchen with a dining area, work area, and living room.

Can lounge space be multifunctional?

The lounge is most often used for work and brainstorming in short meetings. In order to get to the kitchen or toilet, one must go through the lounge area first, and it often happens that this is a place of spontaneous cooperation as a result of an unplanned meeting of two employees.

The zone is divided by depth into two parts and is defined by different types of furniture for different types of collaboration: in one part, there are couches oriented towards the TV, so it becomes more of a brainstorming zone, and in the other, there are high tables where collaboration is more agile.

How is the workspace designed and what are the benefits of such a concept in the work environment?

It was developed as an open office, and, as such, it presents a challenge for concentrated silent work. Therefore, this zone is equipped with a larger number of call rooms that are intended for telephone conversations, but leaves enough space for focused work that can occur in them for shorter intervals if needed.

Despite the spaciousness and the large number of workplaces, this space is above all quiet and peaceful, a clear contribution to the advantages of the ABW office space solution.

Which office space stands out for its multifunctionality?

The most interesting is certainly the living room. From the beginning, in addition to the residence function, it is clearly divided into a zone of formal and informal work. This compartment is achieved by the color of the ceiling that descends along the walls, separating the space on a functional and suggestive level. In the yellow part, there is a soft seating area with a table, shelves, and a screen. This part often gathers people in meetings, and as it is pleasant to work in, we never found it empty.

In the white part, there are high tables that form an island with seats all around it. This is the place of the most agile and often very dynamic collaboration. The table tennis equipment that the staff soon moved into this space testifies to how a small relaxation corner in the living room really doesn’t bother anyone.

How was the brand of this startup company implemented in the space?

In terms of design, Glovo had clear and playful guidelines that we were happy to follow. Gentle gray tones are enriched by a clear Glovo yellow, which can be read in a series of spatial elements. Wherever possible, a touch of nature and rusticality was introduced by using warm wooden surfaces and planted greenery.

We approached the central zone through gradation to emphasize its depth. The use of colors, furniture, and decorative elements gave the impression of a multitude of functions that lined up, culminating in a dark curtain finish that hides the conference room.

Recognizable Glovo icons are scattered across the windows of the collaboration space, closer to the entrance, giving privacy to the employees who use them. The Glovo theme of the office is united by yellow dots that start even before entering the space and rhythmically extend along the walls all the way from the entrance to the deepest point of the office.
